Gun violence is plaguing our country. Passing responsible gun legislation is of paramount importance in an age when school shootings, massacres in places of worship, and other mass shootings are becoming more and more common. Everyone deserves to live in a safe community. I fight every day in Springfield to keep illegal guns off our streets and provide law enforcement with the tools they need to prevent and solve crime.
Though Congress is best positioned to enact sweeping gun control legislation, Illinois continues to lead on common-sense reforms:
- In the most recent session, I co-sponsored and fought for successful new gun storage laws that will keep guns out of the hands of children, criminals, and at-risk individuals.
- In January of 2023, I co-sponsored the successful legislation that outlawed assault weapons in the State of Illinois.
- To support our local law enforcement, I secured $1.4 million to modernize equipment for Chicago Police Districts 18 and 19, which will aid in solving shootings, carjackings, and other felonies.
